Coco and N

February 2, 2009

ccp-1Last night my friend S and I headed down to the tragic lesbian bar turned gay, turned straight, turned what the hell is this mess to see Coco Peru.  She put on a pretty good show and S and I had a good time hanging out together.  Something we haven’t done in a long time.  I’ve seen more drag perfomances in my lifetime than I have cared too but overall Coco did a good job.  Don’t think she cared for all the loud talking that was going on but hey, thats just us rude KC people.  (hangs head in shame)  Next week The Lady Bunny will be in town and I’m really looking forward to seeing her.  I caught her act many years ago and she is funny as hell.  S and I will be returning to the same hole next Sunday to catch the bun.  I’m really looking forward to that one.ccp-2

Tonight I caught up with my good friend N on Facebook and we chatted for a bit.  I’ve never chatted with anyone on FB so it was kinda new and fun to me.  He’s moving to a new area of town in Atlanta soon and I’m planning on making another trip later this Spring/Summer to visit.  It will be nice to see him face to face again.  I miss N being here in KC, but am happy for what he’s doing now.

It’s late and the wind is blowing outside my bedroom window.  Will be so happy when Spring makes its first appearance.

More Late Night Thoughts

January 16, 2009

So the error I made at work didn’t quite end up being as big of a deal as I thought it would. At least not that I’ve heard anyway. But I know my bosses boss all too well (I’ve worked with the asshole for too many years) and I know I’m on his shit list now, but then again, I’ve been on it for as long as I known him. lol  Not looking forward to tomorrow as I have to present this incident during our monthly mangers meeting in the morning. Oh well, life goes on.

It’s been terribly cold here the past few days and I’m reminded every day why I want to move somewhere with a much more temperate climate. I think my cat Jesse would agree.

Was supposed to go to dinner with A tonight but due to the extreme cold he wanted to postpone. (yup, another reason why we are not together) Thats ok though, we have made plans to check out an upscale pizza joint (I’m not saying the name because I don’t want those googling the place coming accross this blog) in Brookside early next week for wood fired pizza. We had a good chat on the phone earlier tonight and I congratulated him on his 1 year anniversary. I honestly think he was surprised that I remembered. I’m extremely proud of him for his accomplishment.

So thats all there is which is kinda sad to say.  My excuse for not writing anything recently, just nothing going on.  Nothing.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

November 23, 2008

day-earth-1

I spent part of this afternoon watching one of my favorite classic sci-fi movies, The Day the Earth Stood Stillday-earth-2 (1951).  It’s message is clear, and I believe it’s much more relevant today than when it was first released back in 1951.  The movie screams of 1950’s science ficition and sure, the plots got a few holes.  But if you just suspend reality for a bit, you will never forget this movie.  I know there is a remake coming out soon but I’m not interested.  Mainstream Hollywood is too focused on special effects and this is not a special effects type of movie.  Plus, the thought of Keanu Reeves playing Klaatu makes my stomach turn.

So if your inclined, check out The Day the Earth Stood Still. . . before current day Hollywood destroys another classic.  (I hope I’m wrong)

Accident

September 7, 2008

Yesterday afternoon I was informed that my older brother was critically injured in a one car collision on HWY 350 coming into KC to pick up one of his kids for a football game.  I have spent that last two days at the hospital with his wife, kids, and our family.  He is currently in ICU with brain trauma so now its just a waiting game to see what the outcome will be.  When we first arrived at the hospital the situation looked extremely grave but as time passed we were glad to find out that his injuries, although critical, are not as bad as originally thought.  His vital signs are very good and he is starting to show slight signs of recovery.  Although he is still unconscience (partially due to drugs, paritially due to the accident)  the Neurologist is very optimistic.  When I talked to my brother tonight he did seem to respond so that made me very happy.   The doc said that days 4-7 are when most complications occur.  The only thing to do now is wait and to be there.

Hang in there S.

The Prowler Stats

September 5, 2008

Investment  $8 Million
Track Length  3,074 feet
First Drop  85 feet
Speed  Approximately 51 mph
Ride Time Approx.  2 minutes 30 seconds
Structure Material  Wood
Features Spiraling First Drop, Terrain hugging at high speed, 102 foot total elevation change, Banked bunny hills, Banked S-curve

So Worlds of Fun officially announced their new coaster for 2009.  To say I’m unimpressed is a total understatement.  85 feet tall?  Blech.  I don’t need the worlds tallest or the worlds fastest but only 85 feet?  The design will be that of terrain hugging meaning it won’t have many large drops and will mainly hug the ground and trees as it twists and turns throughout the course.  GCI puts out some great  coasters so hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.  You can take a virtual ride here.

Verbally Spanked!

September 3, 2008

As BigFattyOnline would say, “I’ve been verbally spanked” tonight by a fellow blogster, namely Buddhafied, for not updating this piece of garbage (I mean blog) on a more regular basis.  Therefore, I promise to myself to update squareboxx at least every other day for the month of September.  I’m sure it will be exciting, hang on tight!  lol

And by the way, I actually did update this blog earlier today with a listing of some of my favorite YouTubers.  If you have the time check some of them out, in my opinion, they are some of YouTube’s best.  And I should know as I’m a total YouTube junkie.

Here Comes the Rain Again. . .

August 26, 2008

Been feeling kinda down the past few weeks.  Just one of the reasons why I haven’t taken the time to write anything here.   I’ve had issues with depression before and today, for the first time in a long time, I’ve actually felt myself slipping back.  Maybe its just the end of Summer that’s gotten me into this funk, I dunno.  I really don’t know. . .

Blech!  :)

Did you pack the tent?. . . WHAT??

August 5, 2008

So B and I decided to to head back out to Camp Gaea this past Saturday afternoon to beat the heat and hang out by the lake.  Its August here and that’s when the heat/humidity kicks into overdrive.  As usual, the 45 minute drive turned into a 2 hour trek as we had to stop to get food, beer, and other necessities.  (Bud Light being the most important)  After arrival we found a new camping spot that had a perfect spot for setting up the tent.

Me – B, grab the tent and I’ll start set up

B – I don’t see the tent, where did you pack it?

Me – You didn’t get it?

B – I thought you got it!

So yes, for the first time (and hopefully the last) we forgot the damn tent!!  Thank goodness B drives an SUV so we set up the mattress in the back where we decided to lay our heads.  During the day we met up with some old acquaintances and met some new ones and generally had a good time.  After sunset we attempted to make dinner but to be honest, for the first time, I was just over the whole thing.  lol  We ended up having hot dogs and corn that we made over the campfire, didn’t taste to bad actually.

B was his usual social self but I wanted nothing more than to head home to the air conditioning.  I tried sleeping in the SUV but pretty much stayed up most of the night due to the heat.  Oi. We both woke up at the break of dawn and headed home.

I’m sure we will laugh about this later. . . much later.
