Merry Mex-Mas!

mex-mas

Two years ago I finally got to see the El Vez Christmas Show here in Kansas City at the Grand Emporium.  I had been wanting to see this show for years and after two failed attempts (one time I got sick and the other time El Vez’s van broke down, or so they said, and had to cancel the show).  El Vez is known as the Mexican Elvis and has been performing as such for years.  I first became familiar with Robert Lopez (El Vez) through his work in the LA punk band Catholic Discipline.  That band was featured in the now classic 1981 movie, The Decline of Western Civilization (which I proudly own a bootlegged VHS copy of as its never been released on DVD).  Since then I’ve always wanted to see him perform live and was so happy I got the opportunity in 2006 during his annual Christmas show.  It was an awesome performance and B and I had a great time at the show.

So I’ll take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Chistmas through the incredible and exciting live performance of El Vez.  Feliz Navidad!!!!!!!!!

A Great Christmas Gift

December 19, 2008

Tonight I was able to get a hold of an old friend that I haven’t talked to in ages.  “Old friend” maybe be a polite way of saying “old flame”.   Doesn’t matter though, we haven’t spoke in so long and it was great getting to hear from him.  It was the best Christmas gift!!!  That may sound stupid and I really need to write a blog about him so it makes more sense.  Don’t have time right now and I’m not in the mood to get sappy.  lol  Maybe I’ll write it down next week.  Yes, I think I will.

Headed to Springfield, Mo tomorrow morning to spend some time with the folks for Christmas.  Not really in the mood to go, espcially since I’ve seen them so much the past three months at the hospital/rehabs with my brother.  But, I gots to do what I gots to do.  I swear I could drive Hwy 7/13 down to Springfield blindfolded.  Off to finish laundry and to pack.

Cold Thoughts

December 17, 2008

I am so tired of the cold.  I’m tired of having to cover myself in blankets when I go to bed.  I’m tired of waking up and dreading getting out of the blankets and facing the cold bathroom.  I’m tired of heading out the door only to face my feezing car with the windows frozen up.   I’m tired of my car just starting to warm up about the time I get to work.

Good god, its been so damn cold this week and its not even officially Winter yet!  My heating bill this month was almost double what it normally is.  I honestly do not understand how my friends who live further up North deal with this on a much more extreme basis than I have to.

Tonight I’m going to bed and dreaming of Summer. . . hot, steamy, sweaty, stinky,  105 degree, 100 percent humity Summer!

Bring it on!!!!!

He’s not perfect. . .

December 7, 2008

It’s actually kind of comforting to know that our new messiah isn’t as perfect as they would like you to believe.  I’m an Obama supporter, and its good to know even he has personal demons yet to fight.  The below comes from Reuters.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Barack Obama failed to give a straight answer when asked on a U.S. talkshow on Sunday whether he had managed to quit smoking.

In a country where cigarettes are responsible for one in five deaths and smoking costs tens of billions of dollars in health care, Obama has been under pressure to set an example by giving up his reported two-decade-old habit.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program, interviewer Tom Brokaw told Obama he had ducked answering the question during an interview last month with ABC’s Barbara Walters.

Noting that the White House was a no-smoking zone, Brokaw asked Obama, “Have you stopped smoking?”

“I have,” Obama replied, smiling broadly. “What I said was that there are times where I have fallen off the wagon.”

“Wait a minute,” Brokaw interjected, “that means you haven’t stopped.”

“Fair enough,” Obama said. “What I would say is that I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier. You will not see any violations of these rules in the White House.”

Obama was often observed on the presidential campaign trail chewing Nicorette gum, which helps ease the craving for nicotine. He has tried several times to quit.

The 47-year-old president-elect, who takes office on January 20, works out daily at the gym and sometimes plays basketball. His doctor said in May he was in excellent health, often jogged 3 miles a day and was fit to serve as U.S. president.

World AIDS Day 12/01/08

December 1, 2008

Today I remember, as I do everyday, my friends who are no longer here because of AIDs.

I remember. . .
