Manilow: An Evening of Music and Passion

April 28, 2008

I’ve been trying to cut back on my concert ticket spending so I was thrilled when I found out I could get Barry Manilow tickets for a mere $10 a pop. Sure the seats were in the rafters but what the hell, it was only 10 bucks and it was f’n MANILOW. I saw Barry in conert many years ago and knew he put on a great show so I grabbed three tickets as soon as I could.

So this past Saturday night L, S, and I parked the car outside of Daddy’s and walked in for a few preshow drinks. Daddy’s is an absolute shithole, pure and simple. But I think thats the way they like it so who am I to complain. After a few beers we headed over to the Power and Light District to see if there was anything new. I’m still totally impressed by the P&L and I’m not an easy person to impress. I like the setup and I like the proximity to the Sprint Center. The only thing I don’t like is the high drink prices and well, for me, thats where I draw the line. Call me cheap if you want. . . cause I am! Actually, I believe that once the newness of the P&L District wears off the kids will head back to their old haunts in Westport. (maybe)

So finally we head across the street to the Sprint Center to find out our cheapo $10 tickets have been upgraded. Apparently the arena was not heavily sold so all the rafter seats were moved down a level. They were still quite a distance from the stage but they were much better than sitting up top. The concert was as good as I thought it would be and he pretty much just did a “best of” show. That was fine by me. I think the highlight of the show (IMO) was New York City Rhythm, thats always been one of my favorite Manilow songs.

I tried to take some video but as you can see in the pic my camera would not focus. Not sure what settings I had wrong because the video I took after the show turned out fine. I’ll have to play with this camera a little bit more before my next concert. And whats the next concert you ask? Peter Murphy next month at the Beaumont Club and I absolutely cannot wait!!

Kentucky Fried Finger

April 22, 2008

So last Monday I accidentally spilled hot grease fresh from the stove on my left hand. Luckily it only landed on one fingers and a little on my leg. Don’t even ask me how it happened because I wont tell, just a stupid mistake that could have turned out worse. This certainly isn’t this first time I’ve burned my hand with grease, my first job was at Long John Silvers and at least once a week I would get a grease burn. That was just part of the job. But, this is certainly the worst burn I’ve ever had and certainly the most gross. Eeeewwww. I went to my dermatologist and she gave me some medication and told me to keep a close eye out for infection. Its defiantly better than it was a few days ago but still hurts like hell and is gross to look at. Hopefully when this heals it wont leave some big scars. My derm said she didn’t think it would scar too bad but it was too early to tell.

So if ya wanna take a look at my fried finger, click on it for a close up and take a look. I wouldn’t advise it though!

Urgh. . . Non PC Rant. . .

April 21, 2008

Warning. . . RANT!. . .NOT politically correct. . .

I’m so sick of hearing the words ‘gay’ and ‘homo’ being used as negatives in TV, books, and film.  The next time you hear a character say the word ‘gay’ or ‘homo’ as part of a joke, replace it with the word ‘nigger’ or ’spic’.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.  Do you think THAT would have made it past the censors?

End RANT
